Reversing Medical Tourism.

Nigerians spend over $1Billion on foreign medical treatment (otherwise known as Medical tourism). For an economy that is struggling, this is one area that definitely needs a second look. Nigeria doctors make up a significant portion of doctors in foreign hospitals and are well respected. As of 2004, out of 72000 registered doctors with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, only about 27,000 practise in Nigeria.

As of 2004, out of 72000 registered doctors with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, only about 27,000 practice in Nigeria. Dr. Biodun Ogungbo the medical director of Brain & Spine Surgery, Abuja, relocated from the UK to try and reverse this trend.

At this session, #StartupSouth5, he will be sharing his experience with colleagues and the general public and discuss ways Nigeria can become a net positive beneficiary of medical tourism. The title of the session is Reversing Medical Tourism.
